Social Networking to Attract A Quarter of Mobile Subs?

To warm you up for the upcoming February MoMo (topic: Mobile Social Networking)... here's a quote from a recent article in telecoms.com.

The article quoted a research from Informa Telecoms & Media, estimating that CAGR for this service is about 30-50 percent. The number of users in mobile social networking currently exceeds 50 million subscribers (2.3%) and will grow in 2012 to 12.5% (in conservative scenario) or even to 23% (in high growth scenario).

More quotes: "Mobile social networking is already an established service in some regions, but with only low investments from mobile network operators."

And about which social networking application to pursue: "[expected] that over the next 24 months, communities which foster friendships will continue strong growth in users and revenues, while entertainment community segment revenues will overtake in some regions in 2010. Other community segments focusing on productivity, fame and social shopping are beginning to emerge on mobile platforms, diversifying the offers and attracting people of different socioeconomic and demographic profiles to mobile social networking services."
